Our Story

We’ve been around for a while…and we have the shorts to prove it!

It all started in 1984 when...

Jeff and Dennis got together to start Austin Deck Company. Their idea was to take decks and outdoor areas from an afterthought to a masterpiece. In Jeff’s own words, “A lot of people think of a deck as just being kind of a rectangle and they have no idea that you can do so many multiple angles and designs, and about the creativeness that there is in it.” Jeff and Dennis took their creative approach to deck design and over the next three decades revolutionized how Austin looks at decks and outdoor spaces.

Today, Austin Deck Company continues to exceed client expectations with every outdoor project. Owned and operated by Abe & Jennifer Oeltjen, Austin Deck Company develops both residential and commercial deck projects with the same craftsmanship and creativity with which it was founded.

Abe started working side by side with Jeff and Dennis almost 20 years ago. Jennifer joined the company shortly thereafter. Project Developers Donny joined the company in 2013, Walker in 2020, and Sloan in 2021.

Adam, Rick, and Brannon all support the crews to execute our projects accurately, quickly, and efficiently.

Employees build better decks because they have been working together for years.

They are more skilled because they work together as a team, rather than each 'doing it their own way'.

The average length of employment for our employees is currently over 10 years! We are also one of the ONLY deck builders in Austin to carry Workers Compensation Insurance.

Our crew leaders have combined 40+ years with the company.
